How to take your Inside Leg Measurement

The first measurement you need to take is your inside leg measurement.

Stand bare foot on a level floor with your heels against a wall. Place a book, or a similarly shaped object, between your legs and raise until it mimics a saddle. Ideally at this point, someone else would help you by measuring the distance from the floor to the top of the book.

If you are not able to get help, the best option is to gently mark the position of the top of the book on the wall behind you using a pencil, ensuring that the book remains level at all times. Move away and measure the distance between the floor and the mark.

How to take your Hip – Shoulders Measurement

You need to take the length of your back in a relaxed position.

This is the measurement from the hips to the shoulder. To identify the bone at the hip, place a flat hand on your hip with your heel on the floor. Rotate your leg side to side, feeling for movement. Mark this position with a small piece of tape or a sticker. We are interested in the length when the hips and back are at their natural flexion position. To measure this, lean forward slightly, relaxing your shoulders. You do not want to feel a stretch whilst doing this. Think of it as relaxing your body and gently falling forwards slightly into a comfortable position, and not a test of flexibility.

You want to measure the distance from the hip bone identified to the outside top of the shoulder. Ideally, someone would help you with this, however if that is not possible, tape a piece of string to the correct position on the hip, relax into the position and hold the string at the point where it meets the outside top of the shoulders. Holding this position on the string, remove the tape and measure the length of the string. This is the measurement to input.

How to measure the Humerus

The third measurement you need to take is the length of the humerus.

This is the length from the outside top of the shoulders to the tip of the elbow. With your elbow bent, measure from the outside of the top of the shoulder down to the end of the elbow.

How to measure the Forearm

The final measurement you need to take is the length of your forearm.

This is the length from the same point at the elbow as used to measure the humerus to the top of the wrist. With your elbow bent, measure from the tip of the elbow to the top of the wrist, level with the bottom of the palm of your hand.
